I have studied and engaged with China since 1993 when I started my undergraduate studies in Chinese history.
I have also been fortunate to work, study and live in Russia, China and the United States - three key actors of today’s geopolitical upheaval - and continue to study their systems, leaders and the dynamics of competition and alignment.

Asia literacy
For most of my career I have been working on building Australia’s Asia capabilities.
My work is focussed on finding policy solutions and mobilising institutions and ecosystems to build an Asia-competent Australia.
Portfolio: Founding and co-editing “Disruptive Asia” - a 5-volume essay series on the impact of Asia’s rise on Australia.
Co-leading with Mark van Dyck and Jennifer Westacott, the national Asia Taskforce of business and policy leaders, convened by the Business Council of Australia and Asia Society.
